This week in the Brown Family...

Sunday evening Caroline started running a fever and it lasted until Monday evening. When we got back from picking Billy up from the airport (from his trip to Portland) I noticed a sore on her tongue...She had Hand, Foot, & Mouth disease. She didn't have a bad case of it, but it was enough to make her miserable. I thought at first she might have been teething again because her gums were swollen, but her fever was too high to just be teething. I was relieved when I saw the sore, that way I knew what it was and didn't have to go to the doctor.

Tonight, Billy, Conner, Caroline, & I are going to spend the night at the Wind Creek Casino. We will be going there for Billy's Toastmaster convention. Conner is just excited to stay in a hotel and swim in the pool. That boy LOVES to stay in a hotel. :)

So, I think I've become better at blogging. Now, I just have to get better at adding pictures. My problem is that I love taking the pictures, but I will take FOR-EVER editing them. My desire, really, is to shadow a photographer and get some experience. I want to take classes too that they offer at South. Well, that will be the next thing I work on.

Until next week...

Okay, so I'm a little late...

...but at least I remembered to blog this week! :)
Last Thursday (April 15) we celebrated Conner's 5th birthday. We brought a cookie cake to playgroup at Centennial Park. A good time was had by all!
Speaking of his cake, we picked it out Tuesday at the American Cookie Company. When we went in, I told Conner to pick something out while we were looking at the brochure. The first thing he picked out were two checkered racing flags. I vetoed that right away as we are NOT into racing...lol I then steered (no pun intended) him towards the sports selections and he went straight for a football cake. I thought he would go for soccer since that's what he's playing right now, but we were in agreement. Fast forward to the party Thursday. Billy leaves before us so he can go get the cake and get to the park before us to decorate. After he gets the cake, he says it has a soccer ball on it. He said that the girl behind the counter told him that Conner talked about both and she thought he said he wanted a soccer ball...Oh well, the cakes still tasted like a good cookie cake and served the purpose! :)

Last Friday, (April 16) Billy and I drove to Houston to see our dear friend Push get married. It was THE best wedding I've been to. Both his and Panna's family were so welcoming and accepting of us. It was the first Indian wedding we had ever been to. Both Push and Panna looked wonderful and so happy!
Conner and Caroline stayed with Billy's mom. We picked them up Sunday when we got back and noticed that Caroline had cut another tooth! I guess she won't have a gummy smile forever now.

The rest of the week has been pretty slow. This Thursday (April 22nd) we took Billy to the airport so he could go to Oregon and go to a class. We left at 4:30 so he could be in Pensacola at the airport at 5:30. The kids and I made stop by Dunkin' Donuts before we came home. Then, for playgroup this week we went to the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo in Gulf Shores. After playgroup we ate lunch while riding around and looking at the beach. On our way out of town we went to TCBY and got some yogurt and sorbet. It's an unwritten family rule that if you're leaving Gulf Shores, you must stop by TCBY on your way out of town. If Billy were with us he would have gotten orange sorbet like Conner did and I must get vanilla frozen yogurt. Family Rule.

Today, Conner went to school and I took Caroline for her recheck for her ears for a previous ear infection. Everything looked good. Then Caroline and I headed to Mobile to eat lunch with Mama at American Cafe. When we got Conner from school we headed to Blockbuster to get some movies for the weekend. Conner got a Max & Ruby DVD and a Scooby Doo (which I'm sure he's already seen a bazillion times.)
When we got home Conner wanted to watch one of his movies in his room. When I was leaving his room, he looked at me and said, "Mama, you're heart is in my heart." I looked at him and said, "Thank you! That was sweet. Who told you that?" He looked at me, smiled, and said, "God. He told me to say it." It was the absolute sweetest thing I have ever heard that child say to me. I love him!

Caroline's first tooth!

Okay, so Caroline has fallen victim to the dreaded "second child syndrome". "What's that?", you ask. Well it's when the mother documents everything that the first child did from "first bath" to "first sigh". Everything is documented....and I mean everything. Don't believe me? Look at Conner's own blog . I've pretty much stopped his blog too and was wanting to combine everything here on this blog. One thing I CAN assure you of, though, is that she hasn't fallen victim on the picture front. Got plenty of those!
I'm going to try and do better! I AM! I AM! I AM! ....wait I'm going to quote Yoda on this, "Do, or do not. There is no 'try'."
Back to the title of this post.
Caroline's gums have been swollen since before her 6 month check up. She's been drooling and "teething" since birth practically. Ask anyone that saw her. Since about 6 weeks old she's had her fists stuffed in her mouth and gnawing.
Well, at her 6 month check up (March 2, 2010, Dr. Moore saw her gums were swollen and thought she might have a tooth coming in soon. She was right. Sunday, March 28, I felt her tooth coming through. She hasn't had anymore since then, but I'm sure they are just around the corner!
Sidenote:
I just added a reminder to my calendar to blog weekly...It WILL Work!
