Whoa Nelly...I mean Caroline!

Little missy has gone from rolling around for her mode of transportation to half army crawl/ regular crawl and pulling up. All within a week. She started pulling up on her activity center and crawling across the bottom of it. Now she can get ANYWHERE in the house that she is determined to get to and pull up on anything that is under a foot tall.
To illustrate her determination to get anywhere: Yesterday, she was in the living room and heard Conner in the bathroom. She army crawled from the living room, down the hall, to see Conner in the bathroom. Laughing the whole way.
Another instance: We did have our mini trampoline in the living room so it would be easy for us to use. Well, we now have to keep it out of a common area because Caroline likes to climb on it. She just doesn't like to fall off of it. After about the 2nd or 3rd fall I decided to move it to mine and Billy's room. I've been getting a great workout keeping up with her...lol My baby girl is getting too big way too fast!

This week in the Brown Family...

Sunday evening Caroline started running a fever and it lasted until Monday evening. When we got back from picking Billy up from the airport (from his trip to Portland) I noticed a sore on her tongue...She had Hand, Foot, & Mouth disease. She didn't have a bad case of it, but it was enough to make her miserable. I thought at first she might have been teething again because her gums were swollen, but her fever was too high to just be teething. I was relieved when I saw the sore, that way I knew what it was and didn't have to go to the doctor.

Tonight, Billy, Conner, Caroline, & I are going to spend the night at the Wind Creek Casino. We will be going there for Billy's Toastmaster convention. Conner is just excited to stay in a hotel and swim in the pool. That boy LOVES to stay in a hotel. :)

So, I think I've become better at blogging. Now, I just have to get better at adding pictures. My problem is that I love taking the pictures, but I will take FOR-EVER editing them. My desire, really, is to shadow a photographer and get some experience. I want to take classes too that they offer at South. Well, that will be the next thing I work on.

Until next week...

Okay, so I'm a little late...

...but at least I remembered to blog this week! :)
Last Thursday (April 15) we celebrated Conner's 5th birthday. We brought a cookie cake to playgroup at Centennial Park. A good time was had by all!
Speaking of his cake, we picked it out Tuesday at the American Cookie Company. When we went in, I told Conner to pick something out while we were looking at the brochure. The first thing he picked out were two checkered racing flags. I vetoed that right away as we are NOT into racing...lol I then steered (no pun intended) him towards the sports selections and he went straight for a football cake. I thought he would go for soccer since that's what he's playing right now, but we were in agreement. Fast forward to the party Thursday. Billy leaves before us so he can go get the cake and get to the park before us to decorate. After he gets the cake, he says it has a soccer ball on it. He said that the girl behind the counter told him that Conner talked about both and she thought he said he wanted a soccer ball...Oh well, the cakes still tasted like a good cookie cake and served the purpose! :)

Last Friday, (April 16) Billy and I drove to Houston to see our dear friend Push get married. It was THE best wedding I've been to. Both his and Panna's family were so welcoming and accepting of us. It was the first Indian wedding we had ever been to. Both Push and Panna looked wonderful and so happy!
Conner and Caroline stayed with Billy's mom. We picked them up Sunday when we got back and noticed that Caroline had cut another tooth! I guess she won't have a gummy smile forever now.

The rest of the week has been pretty slow. This Thursday (April 22nd) we took Billy to the airport so he could go to Oregon and go to a class. We left at 4:30 so he could be in Pensacola at the airport at 5:30. The kids and I made stop by Dunkin' Donuts before we came home. Then, for playgroup this week we went to the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo in Gulf Shores. After playgroup we ate lunch while riding around and looking at the beach. On our way out of town we went to TCBY and got some yogurt and sorbet. It's an unwritten family rule that if you're leaving Gulf Shores, you must stop by TCBY on your way out of town. If Billy were with us he would have gotten orange sorbet like Conner did and I must get vanilla frozen yogurt. Family Rule.

Today, Conner went to school and I took Caroline for her recheck for her ears for a previous ear infection. Everything looked good. Then Caroline and I headed to Mobile to eat lunch with Mama at American Cafe. When we got Conner from school we headed to Blockbuster to get some movies for the weekend. Conner got a Max & Ruby DVD and a Scooby Doo (which I'm sure he's already seen a bazillion times.)
When we got home Conner wanted to watch one of his movies in his room. When I was leaving his room, he looked at me and said, "Mama, you're heart is in my heart." I looked at him and said, "Thank you! That was sweet. Who told you that?" He looked at me, smiled, and said, "God. He told me to say it." It was the absolute sweetest thing I have ever heard that child say to me. I love him!

Caroline's first tooth!

Okay, so Caroline has fallen victim to the dreaded "second child syndrome". "What's that?", you ask. Well it's when the mother documents everything that the first child did from "first bath" to "first sigh". Everything is documented....and I mean everything. Don't believe me? Look at Conner's own blog . I've pretty much stopped his blog too and was wanting to combine everything here on this blog. One thing I CAN assure you of, though, is that she hasn't fallen victim on the picture front. Got plenty of those!
I'm going to try and do better! I AM! I AM! I AM! ....wait I'm going to quote Yoda on this, "Do, or do not. There is no 'try'."
Back to the title of this post.
Caroline's gums have been swollen since before her 6 month check up. She's been drooling and "teething" since birth practically. Ask anyone that saw her. Since about 6 weeks old she's had her fists stuffed in her mouth and gnawing.
Well, at her 6 month check up (March 2, 2010, Dr. Moore saw her gums were swollen and thought she might have a tooth coming in soon. She was right. Sunday, March 28, I felt her tooth coming through. She hasn't had anymore since then, but I'm sure they are just around the corner!
Sidenote:
I just added a reminder to my calendar to blog weekly...It WILL Work!

Drawing a line in the sand

To borrow a line from my husband Billy, I'm drawing a line in the sand....with my photography. From this point on, I'm going to do a project. I've noticed a lot of my friends doing a "365" or a 52 week project. Well, I'm going to do an A-Z project. I got my idea from Digital Photography School. I'm going to try...no, I'm going to do it weekly! I'd like to do it both ways described on the website.

Doing these projects are supposed to make help you with your photography skills. I've had a lot of practice shooting Caroline lately, but there are only so many photos you can take of a cute little girl before it becomes redundant....VERY REDUNDANT! I would switch subject, but Conner is a little hard to catch.

So, here's to (hopefully) improving my photography skills!

She's starting early!

Caroline has already started rolling. She's not quite 3 months old yet. She'll be 12 weeks in two days (Wednesday, November 25, 2009).
I had put her down on her play mat to play while I go to the bathroom. While I was in there I heard her start crying and thought that she was just being fussy. When I came out of the bathroom her cry was muffled a little bit. When I came back to the living room, I saw she had rolled over onto her tummy. I can't believe she's done this so early!

Caroline's Birth Story

*I can’t believe I’ve waited over a month to write this down. I guess it’s because having more than one child makes you so much busier than when you have just one.

Wednesday started very early. Well, I guess technically Tuesday never ended. I didn’t get to sleep until about 1:00 am and had to be up at 3:30 to get ready and be at the hospital by 5.

We left the house by 4:45 and got the hospital right at 5. I checked into the ER because of it being so early. Then, Billy and I walked up to Labor and Delivery. I got into my room and the nurse asked the standard questions and let me change into my lovely gown. After I was settled into my bed my cervix was checked by another nurse. When she checked me she rammed her fingers into my cervix. It felt like she got a running start from across the room. I remember grabbing the sides of the bed because of how much it hurt. I had never been checked so harshly. I was 2 ½ centimeters dilated.

Then, my IV was started at 5:30. Before my meds were given to me, my blood was drawn. When they drew my blood, it gushed down my hand. I don’t’ know why, but I didn’t realize that blood was that warm. It felt like someone had peed on my hand! I was a little grossed out by the feeling of the blood running down my hand.

After my blood was drawn, my meds were given to me. I had to have penicillin because I had tested positive for Group B Strep. The nurse said it might sting going in, but it didn’t. It CRAMPED! It cramped any time my arm was below my head. So, I laid in the bed with my left arm above my head. I even had to go to the bathroom with my hand above my head which was real interesting!

My pitocin was started at the same time was the penicillin. Contractions soon followed, but weren’t too bad. I could actually handle them by breathing through them. I was surprised at myself because with Conner I only had 3 or 4 c contractions before Billy asked for my epidural for me. I was frustrated though because I was having contractions. I could feel them, but they weren’t showing up on the monitor!

Dr. Wells came in around 8:30 to break my water which was earlier than the 9:00 time he said would be there. Boy, was that an experience! It hurt so badly, which was something I didn’t remember from my labor with Conner. He had to try several times to break my water. He first used the hook. He tried and tried, but said Caroline was tucked to the side. He then tried with a fetal probe and still couldn’t break it. The whole time he’s trying to break my water; I’m unintentionally pushing him with my feet. After he tried with the fetal probe he took a break, which I was very thankful for! During the break, I went ahead and asked for my epidural and my nurse called the anesthesiologist and he was on his way up. Dr. Wells then was going to try with the hook again, but Caroline decided to break the water herself (and Mommy is forever grateful for that…lol) I was about 3 ½ centimeters at this time.

Of course after my water was broken the contractions were more intense and it was too long before the anesthesiologist came in to save the day. He asked Billy to step out while he did the procedure. I still don’t understand why Billy was asked to leave, but I wasn’t going to question anything if it was going to delay me getting my epidural! After my epidural was put in, the left side of my body was totally numb, but the right side wasn’t. It wasn’t bad; it just wasn’t as numb as the left side of my body. I could still feel the contractions on the lower right side of my abdomen.

I was checked again around 11:00 and was about 5 cm. After that, I relaxed and let the pitocin do its job. I was checked again around 12 and was 9 cm. My MIL was the first to come back into the room after they checked me and I told her I was at 9. She then went to go get Conner from school so he could be there when Caroline was born. Soon after, I started pushing. I pushed 3 or 4 times and she started crowning. I had to stop pushing to wait for my doctor to get there. While we were waiting, I asked for the mirror. I didn’t use the mirror with Conner, but I’m glad I did with Caroline. It gave me something to focus on and helped me have more productive pushes. When Dr. Wells got into the room, I only had to push 3 times before she was out.

She came out with her hand on her face which is where she liked to keep it apparently because that’s where it was during her ultrasounds too. I tore when she came out, but not in the place most people tear. I tore up top. I thought it would be worse, but it actually was better. I didn’t have any pain post partum like I did with Conner. Dr. Wells had to give me a couple of stitches, but that was it.

She weighed 7lbs. 1oz. (all the nurses thought she would weigh more!) and was 20 ¼ inches long.

I was so happy too because Billy was able to stay with me the whole time and wasn’t sick like he was with Conner.

After Caroline was cleaned up and we spent some time with her, Billy went to get Conner to see his sister for the first time. It was love at first sight for him! I fell in love with Conner all over again when I saw how much he adored his baby sister. We gave him the gift from Caroline and he opened it, but before he opened it he asked, “How did she carry that?” It was precious! I loved being able to have some private family time with just us four.
